Made for Prayer

We live in a dark world that is getting darker every day. My children will grow up in a world that I know nothing of and they will raise their children in a world that I don’t even want to imagine.

It’s terrifying.

Just two weeks ago, my children went back to school; 1st grade and 5th grade. It’s the last year of elementary for our son and the thought of middle school next year brings so much overwhelm in my heart.

There is so much unknown and that makes me feel completely helpless.

However, as a mother and a follower of Jesus, I know that I can be a light in the darkness for them like no one else can.

I like to think about this verse; 2 Timothy 1:5 “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice: and I am persuaded that in thee also.”

What an incredible reputation Timothy’s mother and grandmother had. Timothy was a disciple of Christ, a young pastor learning under the Apostle Paul, and this all a direct result of the teaching and faith of these two wonderful caregivers.

I want to be like Lois and Eunice and pass on a faith like that to my children.

As their mama, we have front-row seats to know our children’s strengths, weaknesses, and needs better than anyone else.

And as a child of God, we have direct access to the King of Kings through prayer. The only One whose goodness can conquer the darkness our children are growing up in.

Our world needs Jesus, our children need Jesus, and we, as mamas, desperately need Jesus.

I am so grateful He didn’t simply come to this earth to live, die, and rise again (although that still would have been more than we deserved), and then leave us to fend for ourselves and navigate life without Him.

I am grateful that when I am fearful of the impact this world has on their little hearts, I can run to their Creator and pour out my fears to Him.

I am grateful that when we are all feeling overwhelmed during testing and the end of school crazy, I can go boldly to God and just empty my heart to Him and leave in peace knowing that He will guide my husband and me in knowing their little hearts and bodies can handle.

We need prayer. For our hearts and for theirs. And we do not only have access to His throne room but we are invited by God Himself.
