SUMMER IS HERE!!!!! I can honestly say that I have never looked forward to any summer as much as I have this one. Max went to fulltime Kindergarten this year and we are ready for a break for sure! He loves school but has been a little over it the last few weeks and is ready to just be home.
I wanted to make sure that we had plenty to do over the summer but at the same time without being too overscheduled and exhausted. My main goal was catching up on some good quality family time. This is max’s first ‘School Summer’ so we are trying to make up for lost time during the school year and once the school year starts Livy will be in a part-time mom’s day out, so we want to get in as much time together while we have them both home.
So here is a list of three things that are on our Summer Family Bucket List. Make sure to read all the way to the bottom to download your own Summer Bucket List!
I cannot stress how much I am looking forward to this. During the school year, we try to have family nights and spend time together during the week, but after a long day at work for us and school for Max, we are often tired and feel like family time is squished between homework, dinner, and bedtime. I am officially ready for some cookie baking, backyard popsicle picnics, movie nights, and the neighborhood pool.
We LOVE the Fort Worth Zoo (https://www.fortworthzoo.org) We have never invested in any type of ‘membership’ before but the zoo is one thing that we are looking forward to this summer. It basically pays for itself in just a few trips and there is a splash pad that Max LOVES. I love the idea of a membership because there isn’t a rush to see everything all in one day and if we just want to do something at the end of the day we can.
Other than traveling to Maryland to see family and friends we only have two additional small trips planned this summer. A day trip to Waco, my grandmother lives there and we don’t get to visit with her often and of course Magnolia Market. I love that it is such a family friendly place with the food trucks and play yard that the kids don’t seem to mind this mama’s shopping trip at all. We are also hoping to take a weekend trip down to one of the closer Texas beaches. The beach is something that Max misses the most about living in Maryland and we are planning to surprise him with a short weekend beach trip before school starts.
I am so looking forward to this summer. But mostly I am looking forward to being together. Olivia misses Max when he’s at school and we all miss sleeping in and lazy pancake breakfasts. My goal is to plan just enough to be intentional about having family time but not over plan so that we are exhausted and overspent. I want to make the most out of small moments. I want my littles to look back at the unicorn pancake breakfasts and popsicles on the back porch after running through the sprinklers. It doesn’t have to be huge. It just needs to be us.
